P.R.I.D.E. Training (Parents' Resources for Information Development Education) is also sometimes called The Foster Parent & Adoptive Parent Preparation Course. If you’re planning on adopting a child or children currently in the Washington State foster care system, you are required to take the P.R.I.D.E. pre-service training and orientation. We have combined them so you receive a complete orientation about adoption, foster care and the process.
As many of you already know, on October 15, 2011 the State of WA updated their training requirements for licensed foster and
adopt-foster homes. The 36 continued education hours required over the three years of your license are now defined into one set of educational hours. This means that while you can, and should take individual specific training topics you will also need to attend this 36 hour training too. In addition to these hours there is an additional required training that all licensed homes are required to take in their first year of being licenses.
We have received many phone calls and emails from families and professionals regarding these trainings, inquiring if FLO will be providing them. At this point we do not have the additional 36 hours of training scheduled and have not decided if we will be offering that training. We will be making that decision sometime in February 2012.
FLO will be giving the additional training that you’re now required to take within the first year of your license. We have not however received the full curriculum for this training so we have not yet scheduled those trainings. Hopefully we’ll be able to start offering this, along with your P.R.I.D.E. trainings and speciality topics soon.
If you have any questions regarding these changes please feel free to contact us here at FLO.
Effective September first there have been some changes with registering for P.R.I.D.E. training in King County. NWRA is no longer taking those registrations. FLO however will continue to provide training and take registrations. Currently we have FLO trainings scheduled, we may be adding trainings at other agencies over the next couple of months.
FLO provided P.R.I.D.E. trainings includes the orientation so you do not need to take that as a separate training. You will need to take your
CPR/BBP/First Aid training. The FLO September training currently has two available seats, but they will fill fast. We currently have room in the
October training held in Seattle and the
November training held in Redmond.
If you're having a problem finding a class, or have questions please
contact Families Like Ours for help. We are currently reviewing all our training programs and adding new educational programs to the calendar over the next six to eight weeks.
