Adoption Tax Credit who gets to claim it in non traditional families?
So the adoption tax credit has been extended until 2011, but who gets to claim it in non traditional families? Since gay and lesbian couples cannot file jointly, this tax credit can only apply to one partner, so how do you decide? Just another issue that non traditional families have to deal with because they aren’t following what is socially accepted as “normal.”
Speaking of taxes, since the federal government does not recognize same sex marriages and the DOMA* law is still in effect, same sex couples pay more taxes since they must each file separately. Also the inherited estate taxes are greater as well, since it is not being passed on to a “spouse.” When is Mr. Obama going to look at the DOMA law again? Is he waiting for his second term? How much longer do we have to deal with the mess that are the marriage laws between states, and having the Federal Government override it all with DOMA?
