David Wing-Kovarik, Executive Director and CEO

David Wing-Kovarik and his spouse co-founded Families Like Ours in 2000 to reduce barriers faced mainly by gay and lesbian adoptive-foster families by connecting families and professionals to a network of resources, support, education and advocacy. An adoptive parent himself, David understands first hand the unique issues facing families and the social service community. David has been involved with the adoption and foster care community since 1999 and is often seen working on local, regional and national adoption and foster care related improvement committees. He trains and speaks to adoptive and foster care families and professionals throughout the Pacific Northwest and is a member of the state wide Washington Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) GLBT Advisory Committee. David is also a board member of the national Adoption Exchange Association and helped develop the standards and ethics used by adoption exchanges throughout the United States. David is currently enrolled in the Adoption Therapy certification program and he has training in foster and adoption care in several states. David has sat on several local and regional Foster Care Improvement Plan (FCIP) committees. He is a strong community leader for adoptive families and special needs children and noted writer and columnist published both locally and nationally. David is also co-author of Adoption 101: the family guide available through the Families Like Ours web site. David has more than 18 years practical professional business experience in both the commercial and nonprofit sectors and adult education. David and his spouse Conrad reside in Washington State with their two sons and two dogs.
