Families Like Ours, Inc (FLO) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) Adoption Exchange, helping pre & post adoptive families, GLBT and non GLBT alike since October 2000 through our network of adoption resources, support, education and advocacy.

Each year FLO^? provides direct and indirect assistance to more than 2,000 families and professionals nationally.

Our funding mainly comes from you, the general public. FLO is a volunteer peer-to-peer program that is supported by your direct donations. We do not cost you tax dollars, take program money away from other needed services, or increase the tax payer's public service burden.

What FLO means to me . . . .

Families Like Ours is an organization that we found quickly after we started moving towards adopting kids. We knew when we signed up for our P.R.I.D.E.^? training that we wanted to take it from a queer^? friendly organization, so even though we live out on the Olympic Peninsula we made the trek in to Seattle two weekends in a row. It was worth it. FLO hooked us up with a friendly agency in our area that we felt comfortable with, and has been a constant resource through the various snags our family has hit in the process. Adoption bureaucracy is stressful enough without having to worry about discrimination. FLO is a family organization run by people who've been through it all and can help you navigate the system. FLO is family with whom you can entrust the future of your own family.

As a volunteer and board member I have been lucky to see first hand what this organization can accomplish. For my family it was education and helping get our profile out as a family ready to adopt. For others it has meant a child has had a home to sleep in that night because FLO was called upon to help when no one else would. FLO has mediated discrimination issues and has had children returned where they should have never been taken away from. FLO has trained countless families in P.R.I.D.E that now foster or have adopted children. FLO has helped at-risk youth in bad homes find homes that were supportive and safe.
