Independent Adoption Exchange

Most Adoption Exchanges are contracted or affiliated with a state or county children’s administration agency. Families Like Ours is not, we are an independent volunteer based nonprofit public charity organization. This means when we go to bat for you, when we strive to make changes in the adoption and foster care system, we do not feel the threat of losing a state or county contract. We do not close down, stop operations because a state contract runs out or is out of money. Families Like Ours was created as an independent, volunteer based organization by adoptive families and professionals, for adoptive families and professionals.

What is an adoption exchange?

The best way to think of Families Like Ours would be an open umbrella. Our job is to provide you, the family and professional with reliable resources, education and services to help you with your adoption and foster care needs. We understand both sides of the issue, from the family’s perspective as well as the professionals. Our role is to help stream line the process for families, overcome barriers, assist the professional team, and make connections that result in children finding committed permeate adoptive families.
