Myth: Most American Households are made up of a married husband and wife.
Fact:
- According to the US Census Bureau, 2000 marked the first time that less than 25% (23.5%) of American households were made up of a married man, women and one or more children. In 1960, only 45% of American households fit this picture. (By 2010 that is expected to fall to 20%)
- An estimated 2 million GLB people are interested in adoption
- An estimated 65,500 adopted children are living with a lesbian or gay parent
- Gay and lesbian parents are raising 4% of all adopted children in the U.S.
- 3% of foster youth are being raised in a gay or lesbian foster home, that’s more than 14,000 kids
- WA has the 5th largest number of adopted children living in a gay or lesbian home nationally
